NSSA Contributions in USD and ZiG: Getting Multi-Currency P4s Right

Paying staff in two currencies? Your P4 must report each one correctly.

27 Jul 2026 · 2 min read · 1 views

Since the introduction of Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) in 2024, many employers pay part of salaries in US dollars and part in ZiG. Payroll handles it; the NSSA P4 has to as well.

Why currency matters on the P4

Contributions are calculated on insurable earnings, and those earnings are declared in the currency they were paid. Adding a USD amount to a ZiG amount produces a number that means nothing — and a contribution figure NSSA will not agree with.

Compliance note — currency of contributions
Where remuneration is paid in more than one currency, contributions are generally due in the currency of payment, and returns must declare earnings per currency. Insurable earnings ceilings are published by NSSA and may differ by currency.

Common multi-currency mistakes

  • Converting everything to one currency "for simplicity".
  • Applying a USD ceiling to ZiG earnings, or vice versa.
  • Using an outdated exchange rate in payroll.
  • Paying contributions in one currency for earnings paid in another.

How YoBridge handles it

YoBridge records earnings per employee, per period, per currency, and never adds two currencies together. Its P4 support is multi-currency, so USD and ZiG earnings are reported as NSSA expects. The same earnings feed your ZIMRA PAYE return, where the USD-to-ZWG rate used is captured on the return.

And because YoBridge files the P4 directly on the NSSA portal, there is no export file to reformat for each currency — you preview, submit and keep the receipt.
